Brain cancer treatment in India
Brain cancer- causes, symptoms, and treatments
When cancerous cells grow and multiply in the brain, it is termed brain cancer, and depending on the tumor, it might either be fast or slow-growing cancer. Depending on the diagnosis, the brain cancer treatment in India is decided by the doctor. There are different types of brain tumors. Some are benign or non-cancerous while some are malignant or cancerous. Some brain tumors begin in the brain as primary cancer or they start in another part of the body and metastasize to the brain as a secondary tumor. The rate of growth and the tumor’s location will have an impact on the nervous system and that is why there is a need to choose the right brain cancer treatment in India based on different factors including patient health and the size of the tumor.Signs and symptoms of brain cancer
Depending on the location, growth rate, and size of the tumor, the signs and symptoms of brain cancer will vary. The general symptoms include- A pattern of headaches changes or there is a new pattern onset.
- Frequent and severe headaches.
- Vomiting and nausea without any explanation.
- Issues with vision like double vision, peripheral vision loss, blurring, etc.
- Loss of sensation in any limbs or loss of movement in the limbs.
- Difficulty in speaking
- Difficulty in balancing
- Feeling tired or extreme fatigue
- Difficulty owing to confusion and in making decisions.
- Not able to follow simple things or commands.
- Change in behavior or personality
- Sudden seizures without any pre-existing condition.
- Problems in hearing
Primary brain cancer classification:
- Tumors that begin in the brain or spinal cord are known as gliomas. This would include glioblastomas, ependymomas, astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, and oligoastrocytomas.
- The tumor that arises from the meninges or the membranes around the brain are known as meningiomas and most of these tumors are noncancerous.
- The benign tumors that start on nerves affecting our hearing and balancing on the nerves from the brain to the inner ear are known as schwannomas or acoustic neuromas.
- Tumors that originate in the pituitary gland are known as pituitary adenomas and this can impact the pituitary hormones all through the body.
- Starting in the lower backside of the brain, the medulloblastomas and is cancerous. This tumor is more common among children but can happen to anyone. It spreads through the spinal fluid.
- The germ cell tumors generally originate from ovaries or testicles and develop in children. But sometimes these cells spread to the brain as well.
- Starting near the pituitary gland, the section that controls most functions in the human body, craniopharyngiomas can slowly affect the pituitary and other parts of the brain.
- Radiation exposure where people are exposed to ionizing radiation like someone who received radiation treatment for other types of cancer or exposure to radiation from atomic bombs.
- A very small percentage of people get affected by brain cancer, owing to family history.
Brain Cancer Diagnosis
Despite the risk or causes, a proper diagnosis is required to confirm the right brain cancer treatment in India. An exam to check vision, balance, hearing, reflexes, coordination, and strength is conducted by the doctor through a thorough neurological examination. This will help in determining the part affected by the tumor. There are also imaging examinations like MRI used to diagnose brain tumors. A biopsy is also performed to determine if the tumor in question is cancerous or not. This is done by removing a sample of tissue from the tumor through surgery or a needle.Brain cancer treatment in India
The size, location, and type of tumor will determine the brain cancer treatment in India.- Surgery is the foremost suggestion recommended by doctors provided the tumor is accessible through operation and the removal is possible. Certain tumors are smaller in size and can be easily detached from the brain tissues without causing any damage and surgery is done in those situations.
- In cases where the brain tumor cannot be removed completely, a part of it is removed to relieve pain and reduce the symptoms of cancer in the patient.
- External beam radiation therapy like protons is used to kill the cancer cells and in a rare scenario, the radiation disk might be placed close to the tumor, under brachytherapy to contain or remove cancer cells. Proton beams are also used in radiation therapy and there might be some side effects that your doctor can help with like hair loss, irritation in the scalp, etc.
- Radiosurgery is also used to deliver a highly concentrated beam of radiation to the tumor. It is delivered through various technology like linear accelerator, gamma knife, etc. It doesn’t take multiple sessions for radiosurgery.
- Chemotherapy is also used in certain cases to help reduce or kill cancer cells in the brain. It is either given intravenously or through a pill.
