PTCA treatment in India
Every year there are many cardiac patients visiting to have their PTCA in India.
Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty or PCTA is a minimally invasive procedure to open up all the blocked coronary arteries. This allows the blood to circulate freely and smoothly to the heart muscles.
Procedure of PTCA
Under the procedure of PTCA, a guidewire is placed via needle and then the needle is removed. After this, an introducer is placed over the guidewire. A long narrow tube known as a diagnostic catheter is advanced in the blood vessel. The catheter is then guided to the aorta and the guidewire is removed. The whole procedure is followed by taking an X-ray.
If the treatable blockage is noted, the first catheter is switched to a guiding catheter. Once the latter is in place, a guidewire is then advanced across the blockage and then a balloon catheter is advanced to the site of the blockage. The balloon is advanced, it is then inflated for a few seconds. This compresses the blockage against the walls of the artery. The balloon is then deflated. The doctor can repeat this procedure a few times. In some cases, a stent (a small metal mesh tube) may be inserted into the artery to help keep it open after the balloon is deflated and the catheter is removed.
